The Black Eden

1957. Scotland. Aaron and Robbie, two working-class friends since childhood, are taking their first diving exams in the depths of the North Sea. Jamie and Ally, a pair of very different boys at a remote boarding school, are plotting lofty ambitions. While Joe, the son of a proud fishing dynasty, is trying to hide the truth from his father: he has no sea legs at all.

Before these boys are quite ready to be men, the rumours begin. There is oil beneath the sea. The race to strike gold begins. The boys seize the chance for their share of the spoils.

But as the coastline is transformed, communities and families are divided, and the staggering cost of their ambition soon becomes clear.
