A young, able and ambitious officer of the Imperial and Royal Army of the Austro-Hungarian Empire is, through his homosexuality, blackmailed into becoming a spy for Tsarist Russia.

Spanning the years between 1890 and 1914, the play reveals the tragedy of an individual and the character of the unique institution in which he achieved high rank.
